Goodmorning.AsfamiliesacrothenationgathertocelebrateChristmas,LauraandIwanttoextendourbestwishesfortheholidays.

WehopethatthisChristmaswillbeatimeofhaineinyourhome,andatimeofpeaceintheworld.Inthisseason,wecelebratewithourfamiliesanddeeplymiloveoneswhoarenolongerwithus.Thous

andsoffamiliesinournationarestillgrievingovertheterribleloesthatcametothemlastyearonSeptemberthe11th.Wehenotfottentheirloandwecontinuetoprayfortheirfort.

TheChristmasseasonbringsadeeperconcernforfellowcitizeinneed.Ourcountryisproerous,yetwemustalsoremembertherearepocketsofdeairinAmerica.Somemenandwomenarefacingthestrugglesofillneandoldagewithnooohelpthemorpraywiththem.OtherAmericafightagaitterribleaddictio.Someyoungmenhenofamilybutagang.Someteenagemomsareabandonedandalone.Andsomechildrenwonderifanybodylovesthem.

Weallshareareoibilitytohelp,boththroughourgovernmentandthroughindividualactsofpaion.Inthisseasonofgiving,IhopeallAmericawilllookforoortunitiestodonateandvolunteerwheretheneedisgreatest.Byreachingouttoaneighborinneed,wemakeourcountryamorejustandgenerousplace.

Ourentirenationisalsothinkingatthistimeofyearofthemenandwomeninthemilitary,manyofwhomwillendChristmasatpostsandbasesfarfromhome.TheystandbetweenAmericaandgredanger.Theyserveinthecauseofpeaceandfreedom.Theyweartheuniformproudly,andwearesoproudofthem.

IhemetwiththeseidealisticyoungmenandwomenacroAmericaandaroundtheworld.Iknowthesacrificestheymake.Andineveryplacetheyserve,theycanknowthattheyhetheloveoftheirfamiliesandthegratitudeoftheirnation.

Atthistimeofyear,weareciateallthebleingsthatfillourlives,eeciallythegreatbleingthatcameonaholynightinBethlehem.TheChristmasstoryeakstoeverygeneration.Itisthestoryofaquietbirthinalittletownonthemargiofanindifferentempire.Yetthatsingleeventsetthedirectionofhistoryandstillchangesmillioof

lives.

Forovertwomilleia,ChristmashascarriedthemeagethatGodiswithus,andbecauseheiswithuswecanalwaysliveinhope.TheworldweliveinisverydifferentfromtheworldofancientBethlehem.Ourneedforthathopeisstillunchanged.Inallthechallengesanddangersofourday,westillseekthepromiseofpeaceonEarth.
