陈州是一名残疾人歌手。他13岁时因一次意外失去双腿，只能用双手拄着一对木箱走路，靠在街头献唱维持生活。
22岁那年，陈州爱上了一位美丽的姑娘，这个姑娘名字叫喻磊。当时他周围的朋友都十分不客气地说他是“癞蛤蟆想吃天鹅肉”，他也不反驳，但“吃”心不改。他大胆地向喻磊表达了心中的爱意，可喻磊当时对他没有一点儿感觉，看他那样子又不好直接拒绝，于是喻磊便故意给他设置了一道高栏：“如果你能登顶泰山陪我观日出，我就做你的女朋友。”喻磊是想给陈州设置一道他无法跨越的高栏，好让陈州知难而退。没料到，陈州想都不想就说：“好，一言为定！”
陈州来到了泰山脚下，双手握住两只木箱的提手，两只手交替着开始登山。一路上，他面带微笑，不停地给自己加油、鼓劲。到达中天门时，他的手累得直抽筋，手掌上也磨满了大泡。过了中天门，台阶越来越陡，天色也越来越暗。朋友们都劝他放弃，但他笑着拒绝了。他双臂和前胸的肌肉都拉伤了，双手上磨起的大泡不断地被压平，钻心地痛。但他一直对自己说：一定坚持住，绝不能放弃。晚上10点30分，陈州登上了十八盘最后一个台阶，终于登临泰山山顶。早已等候在山顶的喻磊，看着疲惫而坚毅的陈州，脸上流下了感动的泪水。她蹲下身拥抱陈州。
如今，陈州和喻磊幸福地生活在一起，并生育了一儿一女。2012年8月12日，陈州又向最艰险的西岳华山发起挑战，并成功登顶。面对媒体，陈州说：“如果说登泰山是为了跨越爱情之栏，那么登华山就是为了跨越人生之栏。虽然我身有残疾，可是我依然想用我的双手去创造属于我的价值，用我的双手去做我想做的事情，去我想去的地方。”
