Growing with EnglishBack in the years when I was only six years old or so, I had my first taste of English. It seemed very strange to me. At the very beginning, I was not so interested in this strange language. Moreover, the English TV program always took time away from my cartoon shows. As a result, I started to hate English. Time flies. Things completely changed at the end of my primary ['praiməri] school life. In the last exam of the whole primary school period, I did so well in English that I got a full mark. I found that I could do a perfect job in English if I put my heart on it. This exam seems to be a turning point on my road of studying English and has really inspired [in'spaiəd] me. I am the part of the Green Olympics

Ladies and gentlemen:

good morning!

Today, my speech is ＂I am the part of the Green Olympics＂.

＂Green Olympics＂ is one of the Three Themes of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Therefore the Beijing government had made a great effort in order to protect the environment, build more ＂Green project＂, keep the ecological balance, push the recycling economy, and protect the water resource. But if only the government take the action to realize the Green Olympics in 2008, its not enough. As a Beijing high school student, we should play an active role in the actions aimed at the realization of Green Olympics. So we should start it from ourselves, our family, our friends and other people around us.

In 2001, in the Moscow world trade center, when the former chairman of the International Olympic Committee, Samaranch had said: ＂Beijing, China!＂ As a Beijing citizen, as a Chinese, I had a great joy for my city, for my home country from the bottom of my heart! But after the excitement that Beijing had been succeed in the race to host the Olympic Game in 2008. I started to worry about the dusty air, the sandstorm, the polluted rivers and lakes; the streets without any green and whether we could successfully host the Olympic Games in 2008.

Persistence pays off Every new semester is a time for resolutions. We often make lists of'dos and don'ts' , in order to improve ourselves in many ways. The same old favorites have recurred every semester since I entered the college. For instance, the first semester I resolved to do the morning reading, eat less and exercise more to lose weight, take a part-time job and earn the tuition by myself. However ,past experience has taught me that certain accomplishments are beyond attainment. For one thing, I just found my resolutions were too ambitious to carry them out. For another, time seemed so limited that I always failed to devote any to my resolutions. In most cases, when I recalled the old days at the end of a semester, I was overwhelmed by a feeling of frustration and depression resulted from the failures. “something must be changed.” I said to myself at the beginning of this semester. I gave a thorough analysis to my situation, concluding that the “excuse” should be the crucial factor that contributes to my failures. Every time I pushed myself to run on the playground or get up early in the morning ,I always made different excuses for myself, like “the wind is too strong or I am a bit ill today”. Then, little by little, I slipped back to my bad old ways. Aware of the pitfalls, I decided to keep myself to two modest resolutions: to do physical exercise at least 3 times a week and to remember 5 English words each day. Day after day, I stay on my track regardless of any obstacle and there won't be any excuse any longer. Everyday after finishing the task, I sleep on my bed with a sense of achievement . I think that during the process not only do I improve myself, but I pick up a precious quality——persistence as well. At last, I'd like to say “ everyone should have some resolutions during each period, while what matters is not how ambitious they are but is that you can be persistent on the way to realize them.
