英语专业开设在大学三年级的《英语视听说》课程是
一、二年级的英语听力课和英语口语课的结合与延续。本课程利用多媒体和语言实验室的声频和视频功能，使学生通过观看内容贴近生活的情景会话和真实的视听素材，接触地道的、“原汁原味”的英语。教师在课堂中可循序渐进地对学生进行语言交际技能的训练，提高学生的英语口语交际能力。以外语教学与研究出版社出版的《大学英语视听说教程》为例，该教材的内容构成主要是情景会话和与之相关的背景文化短篇，基本上都是日常生活的话题和场景。在教学过程中，教师可先让学生观看视听材料进行语言输入，教师进行语言点讲解和相应的文化背景知识介绍，要求学生完成听力理解题和听写填空题，以检测学生对视听内容的理解程度。学生掌握视听内容后，教师可组织学生就所学的语言、话题或相应情景进行口语交际练习，即语言输出。形式可以是根据所给定的情景分组进行对话练习，或就某话题、观点进行讨论或辩论。此时学生是主体，教师不要过多干预。而对语音方面的问题，可通过练习发音、单词、绕口令、诗歌以及歌曲等形式，进行语音语调的训练。
