Do or Don't: Living With Parents After You're Married

OK, I realize this might seem like an automatic Don't, but hear me out. I've got some good news and I've got some bad news. The good news…

After lots of searching, Chris and I found a new place! We'll be renting an adorable three-bedroom house in the 'e79fa5e98193e58685e5aeb931333264643162burbs! I'm beyond excited. I've already picked out which room is going to be my office and I can't wait to have lots of fun backyard barbecues with our friends.

The bad news? Our current lease is up July 30 and the house won't be ready for us to move in until September 1, possibly sooner. So for a few weeks, we'll need a place to stay. Our landlord doesn't love the idea of month-to-month. And the idea of moving into a new apartment for just a month is not terribly appealing to us. Especially if we can move into our new home in the middle of August.

The solution? We'll be staying in the guest bedroom at Chris' parents' house. It's just for a few weeks, which I imagine will become a mantra for all of us. We'll get through it, I'm sure. And if things start to get a little stressful, Chris and I will just have to remind ourselves how lucky we are—his parents are generously letting us stay with them rent free. Even though it's just a month's rent we'll be saving, it's going to be a huge help.
