ForaslongasIcanremember,I'velovedlearningnewthingsandsolvingproblems.SowhenIsatdownataputerforthefirsttimeinseventhgrade,Iwashooked.Itwas

aclunkyoldTeletypemachineanditcouldbarelydoanythingparedtotheputerswehetoday.Butitchangedmylife.

WhenmyfriendPaulAllenandIstartedMicrosoft30yearsago,wehadisionof"aputeroneverydeskandineveryhome,"whichprobablysoundedalittletoooptimisticatatimewhenmostputerswerethesizeofrefrigerators.Butwebelievedthatpersonalputerswouldchangetheworld.Andtheyhe.

Ibelievethatputersarethemostincredibletoolwecanusetofeedourcuriosityandinventivene--tohelpussolveproblemsthateventhesmartestpeoplecouldn'tsolveontheirown.

Ibelievethatmyowngoodfortunebringswithitareoibilitytogivebacktotheworld.Mywife,Melinda,andIhemittedtoimprovinghealthandeducationinawaythatcanhelpasmanypeopleaspoible.

Asafather,IbelievethatthedeathofachildinAfricaisnolepoignantortragicthanthedeathofachildanywhereelse.Andthatitdoe'ttakemuchtomakeanimmeedifferenceinthesechildren'slives.
