PartofthefascinationwithTheQueenMotherwasthesheeranofhistorySheenpaed,notjustthegreateventsofthe20thcentury,itswars,theideologiesthatcameandwent,butitstechnologicalandscientificdiscoveries,itsvastlychangingculture.1801paredto1701wasnodoubtverydifferent.But2001paredto1901seemsanhistoricageapartandyetShesawitandexperienceditall.

ShewasbornduringtheBoerWar,inanerirtuallyfreefromthemotorcar,atimewhen,Sheonceremembered,adairymanstilloftenstoodwithhiscowsellingmilknearthegatesofBuckinghamPalace.YetattheendofHerlife,thousandsofpeoplesente-mailsofcondolencetotheroyalweite.
