Instead of getting frustrated, you can say

Ian: That would be tough on us, how about

Ian is forcing Jake to empathize with him and offering him a promise.

Im a little disappointed

Jake: Im afraid we cant give you more for that price

Instead of ending negotiations, you can say

Ian: Im a little disappointed. Is that all you can offer?

This will make Jake want to give Ian a better offer!

I understand

Ian: I understand where youre ing from, however

Empathize with your counterpart to show your willingness to see things from his perspective, but make him see your point of view as well.

Im willing to promise

Ian: Im willing to promise, but youll he to do better than that.

Show your willingness to work with your counterpart so hell feel invested in a reasonable oute for both sides.
