1. Unemployed:

Over at Career HMO, I call this theUgly U Word and I refuse to let my members use it. It is anegative, defeatist word that implies something is wrong with you. Just becauseyou arent currently working doesnt mean you arent a talented professional.You werent stripped of all your acplishments and experience when you lostyour job. They are yours to keep and promote. Instead, refer to yourself asbetween jobs -- because thats really what you are.

这个字非常负面,有一种失败感,好像证明一个人有问题。虽然目前没有工作,并不代表你不聪明没有才气。失去工作好像使人失去了曾经的成绩和辉煌。因此,要避免说自己现在unemployed, 而是说between jobs,其实这也是真话,因为你确实处于新旧工作之间。

2. Nice:

Of course you are nice, but panies donthire for niceness. They hire problem-solvers. Instead of saying you are nice,call yourself valuable. When it es to getting hired, you need to focus onhow you either se or make employers money. Better still, you need to show howyou he sed or made your employers enough money in the past to cover thecost of hiring you.

Simply put, panies cant hire youbecause you are a nice because it doesnt pay the bills. And, ifyou are concerned about ing across as a braggart, consider this: You are abusiness-of-one who is in the process of marketing themselves to land a newclient (aka new employer). You MUST sell yourself. What would you pay goodmoney for: Something nice, or something valuable? See the difference?

当然你是一个好人,但是公司不会因为好而雇用人。他们要雇用能够解决问题的人。避免说自己nice,改说valuable。申请工作的时候要告诉雇主你可以帮他们赚钱或者省钱。如果你能讲出在上一个职位怎么办帮雇主赚钱的例子就更好了。企业绝不会因为你好人而雇你,试问一下你自己,你愿意为什么样的东西付高价呢?是一般性的好,还是非常有价值的东西?答案很明显。

3. Try:

When some says, I try to... itimplies they dont always succeed. Share with people what you do well. Givethem examples of acplishments that prove your worth. Back up your trackrecord with facts. Use your professional history to show how you get it done.Not only is it more persuasive, it will remind you of just how capable youreally are.

当一个人说Try这个字,显示他不是经常成功的人。要给雇主列举例子证明你的价值,让事实说话。用你的经历告诉他们你的成功。这样做不仅更有说服力,而且还提醒他们你是多么的能干。

4. Open:

A mon mistake that those looking forwork make is to tell people they are Open to anything. While youmight think that makes you sound more marketable, it actually has the oppositeeffect. It implies that you: (a) dont he a focus; (b) dont know what youare good at; and (c) are more worried about getting a job than what the jobentails.

This isnt what hiring managers are looking for at all. They want a confidentperson who knows what they want, why they are the right person for it, and howthey will leverage their experience to do the job effectively. Saying you areopen to all job opportunities is like saying you areopen to dating anyone with a pulse. You owe it to yourself to hesome criteria -- not to mention that it shows you he self-respect.

人们求职时常犯的一个错误是说自己Open to anything - 干什么都行。你自己可能觉得这样增加就业机会,但是结果其实正相反。事实上,这样说显示你:(a) 没有注重点; (b) 不知道自己干什么好;(c) 只关心找到工作而不关心具体做什么。这是雇主最不爱听的,雇主希望雇一个有自信心的人,知道自己想要什么,而且非常合适于这个职位,懂得如何将以前的经验用到新职位中。找工作时说自己Open好比谈恋爱时说跟谁交往都可以。你应该是有条件的,这样也显得尊重自己。
